"No Sew" Dog Crate Cover

Dog Crate Cover Made from Twin Size Bed Sheets

I saw this adorable dog crate cover on Pinterest which linked to a website where they wanted between $300-$500 for a dog crate cover!! Are you kidding me?  I was in Walmart looking for a rug for my laundry room and saw this hot pink twin sheet set for $10. I thought, I think I can make a cover from these sheets. It may not be as perfect as the $500 one but for $10 what do I have to lose. I also came across a spool of pink and white polka dot ribbon for $1 that I thought would be cute to use for the tie backs and bows so I threw that in the  cart.  I used the flat twin sheet as a craft table since I would be needing that. You will only need the fitted sheet and the pillow case. I think I am going to look for a cheap contrasting zebra pillow case when I can find one on clearance but for now, this will do.  Take the fitted sheet and fold it in half.  Put the folded crease section of the sheet on the top and elastic parts of the sheet will help it wrap around the crate. I folded top corner and then just hand stitched a piece of ribbon to the top. A ruffle would probably look really cute too. You will then cut a very tiny slit in the side just big enough to pull a piece of ribbon through so you can make your "tie-backs". Just tie the ribbon through the crate cage around the sheet and make a pretty bow. Do this for each side. You can then make another bow and just use some thread to whip it around the cage door front for decoration. Total Cost of Project $11. Here is finished "Dog Crate Cover"

  1. Dear Cheryl,

Since nobody has posted a comment on your homemade crate cover, I thought I would be the first person to tell you how lovely it is, and how beautiful it turned out.
I am looking to make a stylish crate cover for my double door ginormous crate that is home to my Great Dane puppy, Dyno (now 8 months old and almost 100 lbs.). Your pictures and description have given me a good place to start out. Thanks!

    1. Thank you Sarah. I appreciate the compliment. I had looked all over for something to dress up my dog's crate and the price of the covers were way over my budget. This was a cheap and fun alternative. I'd love to see a picture of your finished product.

    1. You are welcome! Thanks for the comment. Very easy and you can get creative with you ribbon or contrast pillow case that simply slips over the dog bed inside the crate. You may need a queen size for extra large crate.

  6. Cheryl,

I think I'm going to try this! I have a way bigger crate though but I think it will still work. I have a question about this step: "Take the fitted sheet and fold it in half. Put the folded crease section of the sheet on the top and elastic parts of the sheet will help it wrap around the crate." I'm not really sure I understand where you folded it at, but do you think for a bigger crate, that I wouldn't need to fold it, I would just fit the whole sheet around the crate? Please let me know. This is one of the best ideas I've seen as I've been looking up ways to dress up my dog's crate and it's definitely more budget friendly to me as well! Thanks!

    1. You can use a queen or king sheet and that should work fine. Also, put the elastic part and the bottom. So you fold it in have. The fold goes on the top (this where I tacked on a piece of ribbon to cover the fold) The elastic wraps around the bottom just as you would if you put the sheet on a mattress. You will get a bonus cover for you dog bed (extra pillow case) if you buy a queen or king. I used a twin.

  7. Oh my goodness! I totally love this idea and I think I can actually do this! We are getting a new Bernese puppy in a couple of wks and I wanted to do something special with her crate. I have searched the web over and this is the best idea I have found yet!!! And I have some really funky sheets from the 60's or 70's that my grandmother had (still new in the package) and wondered what I would do with them since they weren't the right size for my bed! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
